Privacy Policy for Weekly Spelling
Effective Date: 12/20/2024
At Weekly Spelling, we respect your privacy and are committed to protecting any information that you may provide while using our mobile application (“the App”). This Privacy Policy outlines how we handle data related to the App.
1. No Personal Data Collection
• No Personally Identifiable Information (PII): The App does not require or collect personal data such as names, email addresses, or contact details.
• No Device Identifiers: We do not collect unique device IDs, IP addresses, or other similar data.
• No Location Data: We do not gather or store any geographic location information.
2. Spelling List Data & Limited Storage
• Ephemeral Data Storage: Teachers can create spelling lists, which are then stored securely in an encrypted format on a Firebase database.
• 14-Day Expiration: Each spelling list is valid for 14 days. After this period, the next time the App is used, any expired lists are automatically deleted from the database.
• No Personal Information in Lists: Teachers and students should not include personal, identifying, or sensitive information in the spelling lists. The lists are intended solely for educational content such as spelling words.
3. Content Moderation via OpenAI
• Automated Review: Each newly created spelling list is automatically sent to the OpenAI ChatGPT 4.0 mini API to check for inappropriate content (e.g., profanity, harassment). There is no manual override or “teacher confirmation” step; all content must pass through the OpenAI review.
• Limitations & Caution: While the OpenAI moderation is designed to filter out inappropriate content, it may not catch everything. Users should exercise caution and ensure that they do not include harmful, sensitive, or personally identifying content. We are not responsible for any content that is not flagged by the automated system.
4. Third-Party Services
• OpenAI API Integration: Only the list content is sent for content moderation. No user-identifying data is transmitted.
• Firebase: We use Google Firebase to securely store and retrieve encrypted spelling lists. While Firebase may collect basic technical metrics for its internal use, this data is not personally identifiable and is not linked to any individual user.
5. No User Behavior Tracking
• We do not use analytics or tracking tools to monitor user behavior or interactions within the App. The App does not include advertising, social media integrations, or any other external tracking components.
6. Children’s Privacy
• All Ages: The App is suitable for users of all ages, including children, as no personal data is collected.
• Appropriate Use: Adults and teachers should ensure the content they create is appropriate for all intended users. Because the OpenAI moderation may not catch all inappropriate content, users should remain vigilant and refrain from including any sensitive or identifying information.
7. Data Security
• Encryption & Security: Although no personal information is stored, we take the security of the spelling list data seriously. All lists are encrypted at rest and transmitted securely.
• Temporary Nature of Data: Data expires after 14 days. Once the App is next used after this period, expired lists are automatically deleted from the database, ensuring no long-term storage of list data.
8. Changes to This Privacy Policy
• We may update this Privacy Policy if we introduce new features or modify how we handle data. Any updates will be clearly communicated within the App, and the “Effective Date” will be revised accordingly.
